The pick-up come and hit your truck while yours is stopped at parking lot properly and you are about to be blamed for not preventing such damage. How does that sound?
It is like neglecting the international treaties for seafarers and very regrettable. They said "wilful act of destruction". What is that? I have never heard of it. Do you want to destroy your very own house? Do they think that this two innocent guys ( Captain and chief officer ) are that stupid enough to destroy their careers. Drop the treaties.. just think logically to blame to the persons who did not commit or encourage to involve crime.
What actually happens now is Jury of Korean Courts is neither crazy nor don't know the international treaties at all. Actually Korea is one of the giants in world shipping industry. Most of the Korean officers I have worked together with are proud to claim that they got the best maritime university in Asia. But here in today, it shows korea's incompetency in maritime law matters. Not even "Jail Sentences", but just "not letting them going home" is an unacceptable issue. In my opinion, these two guys should rather accuse Korean Appeal Court of "illegal sentences" and "Destroying their careers" to World Court.
All we want is let those innocent guys fly free. I am not sure whether they can go back to the sea after all of this (Which company want to accept the so-called criminals even though they are not?) and how much they will suffer the rest of their lives after investing all of their money and time to reach such senior levels. It is not that easy to become Captain or Chief Officer unless responsible enough and staying at sea for certain years. Captain is about in 40 and C/O in 36, both from india. Now, they are discharged from jail sentences (sentenced by Appeal Court) by Supreme Court and on bail waiting for final decision by Appellate Court to go home after over 500 days in hell.
