Discussion about current issues on Bulk Carrier with Ship Operator from Singapore
A) Regarding with your interests, I am waiting for New BC Code so called IMSBC ( International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargo Code) published by IMO on last month which is not available yet in our library. This IMSBC will enter in force on 1st Jan 2011 while present BC Code putting in effect from present days only up to the end of year 2010. Once I got this publication in hand, I can thorougly inform the updates. MPA also has the same date as the world to be enforced to MSA 179. (not earlier than that date) Please refer to MPA WEB SITE for further clarification.
B) Intact Stability Code by IMO also just released but no major changes have effected. So even though I don't have this New IS Code, minimum stability criteria for bulk carrier (Solid Bulk, Timber, Grain) will be asf: -
1. GM not less than 0.15 mtr (Grain Vessel 0.30 mtr, Timber Loadline Vsl 0.10 mtr or 3% of max breadth )
2. Max GZ shall occur at angle of heel not less than 25 deg.
3. GZ at least 0.2 mtr at angle of heel 30 deg or greater. (Timber 0.25 mtr)
4. Area under GZ curve to be not less than ..
a) 0.055 meter-radian @ heel 30deg,
b) 0.09 meter-radian @heel 40deg or angle of flooding (for Timber 0.08 m-r)
c) 0.03 m-r between heel 30 deg and 40 deg or angle of flooding.
5. For Grain Vessel only, list due to cargo shifting after properly trimming .. shall be not more than 12 deg.
